After months of planning and lots of preparation, Cambridge Chinese Community Centre is hosting the Family Learning Day of the year this Sunday 11th of October, with the support of all aspects and the fund from the County Council. This event aims to showcase all the work that could be done in Cambridge Chinese Community Centre to encourage parents to get involved in their children's learning.
We are offering lots of learning activities for families and for all age ranges, including:
Tea Ceremony: The Chinese Tea Ceremony has a long history in China since Tang Dynasty, and became a practice that helps people to cultivate themselves and get spiritual perception. Among scholars, intellectuals and ordinary people, people have different ways of preparing and enjoy the tea.
Yiru Wang, a PHD student of Archaeology from Cambridge University will perform the Chinese Tea Ceremony, sharing with us the Chinese tea culture in the way tea is made and consumed, how people interact with tea, and the aesthetics surrounding tea drinking.
Qin: literally "ancient stringed instrument" , is sometimes referred to by the Chinese as "the father of Chinese music" or "the instrument of sages".
We have invited a young scholar, Tianxing Yang, to perform Qin music for us on the day. Tianxing Yang, from Yangzhou China, is a PHD candidates from Zhejiang University. She has learned Qin from different Qin schools in China and has been invited to perform Qin music in Australia, USA and Thailand. TianxingYang's research project in Zhejiang University was focused on the history of Qin music. With the support from the China Scholarship Council, Tianxing Yang is continuing her work on Qin history in Cambridge University.
Paper Cutting: Paper cutting is popular all over the world, but only the Chinese paper cutting was listed in the UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage Lists, which was in 2009.
