Get Together

The Cambridge Chinese Community Centre organises various activities throughout the year for the benefit of its members and to provide a venue where members and their friends can get together. These activities include:

Meeting at least once a week. Members can come and participate in many different activities. Including exercise, tai chi, traditional Chinese dance; children play activities, card games, chess and sing karaoke on special occasions. In addition we encourage members to chat with others, exchange information, consult with experienced volunteers and speak English with our English members.

An important feature of our Community is to celebrate the major Chinese festivals and other more events such as Christmas. Of course to maintain our traditions we always celebrate Chinese New Year, Dragon Boat Festival and Mid-Autumn Festival. We believe that these events are a good way for others from different cultures to understand Chinese Culture and promote racial harmony. To this purpose we always try to rent bigger venues and invite people from other communities to join in our celebrations. We also celebrate Christmas and take part in many local events to merge our members into the local community and bring enjoyment to everyone.

Organise seminars and short courses, some of which are run in co-operation with local authorities. These include the City Council and Police Service to promote their services to our community members. Some of the courses are chosen based on our members’ requirements. It could be a seminar on health, how to deal with racial harassment, food safety for people working in the catering business, how to apply for a benefit, English courses etc. We are always open to consider other matters of concern to our members.

Outdoor activities – We try to enrich our members’ lives by enabling them to be active, social, to mix with other communities in the area and to appreciate the natural environment. There are other opportunities for outdoor activities, such as Cambridge Street Parades, Strawberry Fair, and Cambridge Big Weekend etc. Our Lion Dance, Tai Chi and Traditional Dance teams have already attended these events to the enjoyment of all Cambridge peoples. We also organise BBQ, short trips to seaside, football games and other attractions for our member’s enjoyment.

Come and have fun in the C4, more members means more opportunities to organise bigger and better activities.
