{"id":1088,"date":"2016-06-06T11:38:08","date_gmt":"2016-06-06T10:38:08","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/camchinese.org\/?p=1088"},"modified":"2016-06-25T11:34:42","modified_gmt":"2016-06-25T10:34:42","slug":"dragon-boat-festival-2016","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/camchinese.org\/en\/dragon-boat-festival-2016\/","title":{"rendered":"Cambridge Chinese Community Centre Attended Dragon Boat Racing Yesterday"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>With the upcoming Chinese traditional \u201cdragon boat\u201d festival, a race of dragon boats took place successfully yesterday in Cambridge on the Cam river alongside Jesus Green and the lower part of Midsummer Common, which was organised by Cambridge Chinese Association, <strong>Cambridge Chinese Community Centre<\/strong>, CSSA and other Chinese organisations. The activity showed to the local communities the ancient Chinese culture and customs: racing dragon boat and eating Zongzi on the Duan Wu festival day.<\/p>\n<p>On 5th Jun Sunday, a\u00a0very shinning day, about 2000 Chinese, local residents, students and tourists enjoyed the activity. 12 teams including Cambridge Chinese Community Centre, Huawei Company and CSSA competed the dragon boats racing on Cam River and finally CSSA won the championship.<\/p>\n<p><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/camchinese.org\/Images\/20160605dragonboatrace\/533658799599256437.jpg?resize=1170%2C878\" alt=\"Dragon boat team\" width=\"1170\" height=\"878\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/camchinese.org\/Images\/20160605dragonboatrace\/862633849740743709.jpg?resize=1170%2C658\" alt=\"Dragon boat race\" width=\"1170\" height=\"658\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Cambridge City Mayor Mr.Jeremy Benstead and former mayor Claudette attended the celebration and both experienced personally the dragon boat racing as rower and drum beater respectively.<\/p>\n<p><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/camchinese.org\/Images\/20160605dragonboatrace\/806607855741529176.jpg?resize=1170%2C878\" alt=\"Cambridge City Mayor\" width=\"1170\" height=\"878\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Benstead said: &#8220;Chinese Community is one of the oldest and biggest community in Cambridge area. Chinese communities contributed a lot to\u00a0economic development of Cambridge city, and brought different culture to Cambridge at same time. I wish people can learn more about great and diversified Chinese Culture through these activities.<\/p>\n<p>Besides the race, the festival organised variety of culture shows. <strong>Cambridge Chinese Community Centre<\/strong> performed traditional Chinese dance and Tai Chi Fan which were applauded and favoured by the audience.
